If filing as a C corporation, S corporation, or Limited Liability Company (LLC), you need to file formation documents with the New Jersey state office of public records. An additional $125 fee. 3. Next, register your business with the New Jersey State Unemployment Insurance Agency and State Disability Insurance fund. 4. Request a local business license from the county clerk where you operate your business. 5. Get any other required certifications from the agency specific to your business operation. Additional state certification are required for cosmetology, electricians, home contractors, marriage and family therapists, optometrists, pharmacists, and air conditioning repair services. 6. If your business activities are governed by any federal agencies, be sure to register with them. If you will be hiring employees, obtain an Employer Identification Number from the IRS.
